Greece has submitted its candidature for election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2012-2015, at the lections to be held during the 66th session of the UN General Assembly, in New York, in May 2012.
Greece fervently supported the creation of an effective and efficient Human Rights Council, equipped with a strong mandate.
Greece, through its foreign and development policies, seeks to provide practical support in the promotion of the full range of human rights and will continue to strive for their enhanced promotion and protection, and for further co-operation on human rights among all M-S of the United Nations and across the United Nations system as a whole.
Candidature of Greece as a non-permanent member for 2025-2026
Elections: 79th Session of the UN GA, New York, 2024
Greece having been among the countries with the fewest participations in the Security Council and having admittedly had a successful tenure during the past biennium, has decided to present its candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2025-2026.
Greece had previously held this post in 1952-1953 and, more recently, in 2005-2006.
